World Wildlife Fund Commercials
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrlEQ15mVPM
I love these commercials. So clever. I really think SI would love them. It really calls people out on their actions, and tries to attract us to re evaluate things we "commonly" do.

Coverage on UW Daily Bulletin
Hey everyone
I sent an email off last week to the Daily Bulletin to get some coverage, and looks like we'll be including, probably on Monday!
YAY!
Here's the email I sent:
Hi Chris,
I am a part of Professor Marcel O'Gorman's ENGL 408B "Discourse of Advertising" class.
Our class project is to help advertise the local Grand River Film Festival, which starts on October 22, through viral marketing. The festival is showcasing independent movies for a $5 rate for UW students. The screenings are at Laurier or UW's School of Architecture.
I have attached a poster made by my group in the class. If you could provide the link to my group's website for further information http://rund.ca/ to the daily bulletin readers, that would be much appreciated. The website and movie on http://rund.ca/ are 100% student created, to help advertise the Grand River Film Festival to the university community.
Thank you!

And here was the response...
Thanks very much for sending this! I am not sure that the Daily
Bulletin is exactly "viral", but it's an interesting project anyway,
and I will be glad to give it a mention.

Thought you would all get a laugh out of this....
Last night I posted this message on a FB group I belong to:
hey everyone
if you like andy warhol, and want free sleeman beer on saturday october 28, check out the grand river film festival at laurier. indie movies for $5
for more info, click here http://www.rund.ca/
And for some reason, this post upset a few people, and they felt the need to voice their opinion on my "internet graffiti"...oh so rebellious in nature if I may add!
Hey Steph,
I know you're just doing a class project, but I would appreciate it if your classmates and you would stop sending out spam in order to get people to visit your page.
Thanks,
NNN
So of course, this is how I responded....
I'm not sure why you think the Grand River Film Festival is spam...maybe you don't like movies? Are you familiar with Andy Warhol? If you are interested in going to the Film Festival, the link from http://www.rund.ca gives lots of information about the event. If you like beer, they are giving it out for free at the Indie Lounge on Oct 25.
Also, I'm not sure who of my classmates you are referring too, but I am not responsible for their actions. If you want to voice your concerns, feel free to contact my prof directly at marcel@e-crit.com
Have a great weekend :)

Updates, updates, updates
Hey everyone,
The FB group looks great, we should definitely keep an eye on the google analytics to see how many people checked the website. We sent out invites to a lot of ppl, so we shall see.
I also sent an email to the UW daily bulletin, so I'm "hoping" on Friday we see some coverage. If I see anything, I'll update the group.

Strange Place to see an Obama ad
Stumbled upon an article about Obama having an in game ad board in the PS3/360 racing game Burnout Paradise. Video games actually gross more than the film industry these days, so this was great thinking by the Obama team.
I actually have this game, and the in game advertising is pretty ridiculous.. random buses on the road plastered in Diesel or Gillette fusion logos, and of course all the billboards. In game advertising isn't a new concept, but this is definitely a first for politics.

Townhall Meetings - Why are they so popular?
If any of you have been following american politics, you may have noticed the popularity of "townhall meetings." Instead of formal debates, these things are designed to have a "casual yet chill" appeal. After watching a few of these on TV, I noticed a recent press release from Apple for the new Macbooks. They will even be announcing their new product in a townhall meeting.
Is this the way of the future? Instead of hoping things get coverage, inviting people to a "secret meeting" with a "secret agenda" gets buzz all over the place.
Is this viral? I don't know. But its definitely pretty rad.

I really love this idea....water stencils
Have any of you seen this before? Looks pretty cool in a nasty/disturbing/urban grunge kinda way.
Its all grimy and shit....I think we should do this for our GRFF campaign. Know any grimey places in the KW region...I can think of a few....PHILS? EW PHILS....DOUBLE EW PHILS.
SIDENOTE - I HATED CLOVERFIELD. However, I did like their viral marketing :)

Madagascar 2 - THE MOVIE!
OK - soooo I really want to see this movie. However, I'm disappointed with the ad. It seems so confusing. All the colours are like a bad acid trip. I wish they played up the characters by making them bigger. My favourite it the cute leemur, and he's practially hidden in the background...oh leemur.
